Where the name Elevanet comes from?
First, you have to know that the company's first name wasn't Elevanet...
The company was first named "Net France", which is quite easy to remember, but unfortunately I wasn't carreful enough when I decided to use it, as a trademark was already registered.
Finding a good name is not an easy thing, especially for a website or an online business, because most of interesting domain names are not available anymore.
When you find a company/trademark available, there is a big chance that the domain name in .com is already taken.
So came the day when I had to find a new company name, and quickly. It was in October 2004. I wrote down every keyword related to my business and after many hours (actually couple of days!), I came out with something like "IntelliWeb".
Actually I don't exactly remember the first name I chose. But anyway, the name was available in .com .net and most important domain name extensions as well as available as a trademark/company name.
It was maybe 3 am while I had to go to the Intellectual property french office early in the morning to register the new name. After thinking a bit more... I didn't really liked it. Back to square one.
You have to be proud of your company name. It's something you'll use everyday. It must be easy to pronounce, easy to remember, easy to write, not too long. Your own company also reflects yourself, your ideas.
I decided to have a look at everything I like, write down every of these words, pick the interesting ones. As a fan of U2, I had the DVD of their last tour... Elevation Tour. I liked the word. Positive meaning, the idea of looking forward, going up.
Just mixing "Elevation" with "Internet" brought me to Elevanet.
Luckily, when I tried to type it in google, there was no result. All domain names were available. The company name and trademark were available as well.
I did find my name: Elevanet.
